This is absolutely brilliant.
Tadhg Furlong has been the breakout star in world rugby over the past month. The Leinster front-row burst onto the scene with an amazing performance against the All Blacks in Dublin and followed that up with two more against the Wallabies and New Zealand again in Dublin.
The tighthead has literally been bulldozing his way through opposition since his breakthrough and as a result has been given an apt nickname by the Irish Rugby squad. It all came about after Furlong gave us one of the highlights of the year, trucking through three All Blacks -Brodie Retallick, Owen Franks, and then captain Kieran Read.
Furlong planted the three world class players swiftly on their backsides and was given a nickname by Joe Schmidt that has now evolved and stuck thanks to his Irish teammates.
I think my belly gets a good flash there doesn’t it? Always good to get the gut out on national television.” Furlong said on Second Captains.
It came up in the video review, Joe Schmidt said “Oh, here comes WWF…”, not even WWE so, WWF, we’re going back a few years.
And of course the lads jumped on the bandwagon and started calling me Rikishi, the big fat Samoan wrestler!
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you Joe Schmidt. We look forward to hearing RIKKKKKIIISSSHHHIIII chanted during the Six Nations whenever Furlong gets the ball, similar to the beast chants the South African fan give Tendai Mtawarira
