“We lost the rights to TV3 anyway.”
Ireland and Ulster winger Tommy Bowe announced his retirement from the game this week, with the former Lions star set to hang up his boots at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old, who toured with the Lions in 2009 and 2013, and has represented Ireland on 69 occasions, has endured a torrid time with injury over the last couple of seasons. He took to Twitter on Monday and said that he would be bringing an end to his playing career shortly, with Ulster officially confirming the news soon after.
“I’ve spent most of my career in Belfast, At first George said I wasn’t fast, I eventually found my gears, Had some incredible years, But it’s time to tell you – this is my last,” he wrote.
One man who will miss Tommy Bowe more than most no doubt, is RTÉ commentator Ryle Nugent, who immortalised the winger’s name over the years. Gift Grub’s Mario Rostenstock brilliantly summed it up with this hilarious song this morning on Today FM.
