Rory Best’s Comments On His & Iain Henderson’s Contract Talks Are Concerning

Uh-oh.

Rory Best and Iain Henderson are the last two high-profile stars in Ireland yet to sign new contracts.

Leinster duo Garry Ringrose and Tadhg Furlong, as well as Munster pair Peter O’Mahony and CJ Stander have all signed new deals. But the fact that the Ulster pairing of Iain Henderson and Rory Best are yet to, is slightly concerning.

Rory Best was asked about his and Henderson’s negotiations today, and he didn’t exactly give the most reassuring of answers.

“We are at a fairly advanced stage. Due to a few unforeseen circumstances it is not there yet but we will have news on that – good, bad or indifferent – in the very near future.” Best said.

The Ireland captain turns 36 this year and is currently centrally contracted. Henderson meanwhile is only one a provincial deal, but it is thought he is hoping for a central deal this time round. The lock has previously said he will not rule out leaving Ulster.

With everything that is currently going on with the northern province, it’s understandable Ulster fans will be worried. With no DOR or head coach in place for next season, are the pair considering their future? Or are the IRFU not giving them what they want?

Either way, it’s worrying.
