Munster Star Earns Ireland Call-Up Ahead Of Final Wallaby Test

Series decider.

Munster loosehead prop Dave Kilcoyne has been called up to the Ireland squad and joined them in Sydney ahead of the third and final Test with Australia this weekend.

Cian Healy picked up an AC injury last weekend that forced him early. And while Ireland say he is responding well to treatment – Kilcoyne’s call-up suggests he might not make it back in time.

Jack McGrath is the only other loosehead in the squad, meaning Kilcoyne could come straight back into the matchday squad if Healy is unable to full recover.

Ireland assistant coach Simon Easterby said Kilcoyne “was travelling” in Australia before linking up with the squad.

“He has been in for just today,” said Easterby.

“He’s not been made officially part of the squad.”

“He’s not been officially named in the touring party, but he is available as he’s Irish-qualified.”

Interestingly utility back Will Addison also trained with Ireland last week. The Sale Sharks star, who will link up with Ulster next season, has clearly been in regular contact with Joe Schmidt.

“In Will’s case, he was over visiting family and he had an opportunity to come in,” said Easterby.

“I guess when you’ve got someone who’s moving to Ulster and is Irish-qualified and we had the opportunity to get him into the squad was good, and for the players to meet him.

“It was quite a useful time for him and for us to see him in action.”
