Scotland Test.
The big talking point following Ireland’s disappointing Six Nations opening round defeat to England last Saturday was whether or not Joe Schmidt was going to stick with Robbie Henshaw at fullback.
But when Garry Ringrose was forced out it seemed that question was to be forever unanswered, with Henshaw primed to slot back into the centre alongside Bundee Aki in midfield.
It then came as a bit of a surprise to most when Henshaw was left out of the matchday squad for this weekend’s Test with Scotland. But the Ireland boss has now confirmed the 25-year-old is indeed injured.
“Yeah Robbie is unavailable. He’s got a knock” Schmidt said
“He just got a dead leg and it hasn’t recovered sufficiently so we’re just gonna have to forge ahead.”
“It’s a knock on top of a knock. It does make it difficult; the problem is he maybe could have played. But if you get another bump on it it debilitates you quickly and then you have to make another change.”
“But it’s a pretty exciting opportunity to give Chris Farrell the chance to play against Scotland. He stepped in only once last year and got man of the match. He’s a guy who’s coming back to form after a long lay-off.”
