Simply.
CJ Stander bid farewell to Ireland yesterday with another typical performance as the men in green defeated old rivals England 32-18 to end their Six Nations campaign on a high note.
The back-row shocked the rugby world this week when he announced he would be retiring from the game completely at the end of the season with yesterday his final game for his adopted country following 51 caps.
The 30-year-old was visibly emotional after the game and will be a huge loss to Andy Farrell’s side. He spoke incredibly well in his post-match interview and left the test arena with his head high.
He will also be missed by his teammates who serenaded him with a Tina Turner classic – Simply the Best! A fitting swan song for the South African-born star.
“We put in a good performance that we were putting pressure on ourselves to deliver on all week, and all campaign,” Fullback Hugo Keenan said after the game.
“Everyone’s happy. It’s a great way to send CJ off. We sang a song, and it’s enjoyable in there. Simply The Best [was the song]. It was good craic.”
