We’ve Got A Contender For Worst Name Ever For A Stadium As Rights Sold

Surely this is some kind of joke?

Selling the naming rights to your stadium has become commonplace in modern rugby. The likes of Ireland and Ulster have done so over the years with Landsdowne Road and Ravenhill being renamed to the Aviva and Kingspan respectively.

It generates a lot of cash for organisations and it’s becoming more and more accepting in the modern game. You do however have to draw the line somewhere and today’s announcement by rugby league side St Helen’s is as close as you’re gonna get.

The Super League side today announced a new and expanded sponsorship deal with Totally Wicked which includes the principal naming rights for the stadium for the next five years.

The Saints’ existing agreement with developers Langtree expires at the end of this year, at which point their stadium will be renamed the Totally Wicked Stadium. The financial value of the sponsorship contract is the largest in the history of the club, but seriously, the ‘Totally Wicked Stadium?’

We’ve seen it all now lads.
