Watch: Will Greenwood Explains What Makes Munster So Special

The magic of Thomond Park.

Former England international Will Greenwood was in Limerick on Saturday for Munster’s Champions Cup win over Racing 92.

The former Lions centre was doing his usual Sky punditry work and yesterday recalled a magical moment from that game, that shows how special a club Munster really are.

The two-time European champions are enjoying their best season in recent memory, and it shows. The magic of Thomond Park is once again back for all those to see.

We had this moment before the game.

It kicked off in the evening, a 5:30 kick-off. We were chatting with Alex Payne. Alan Quinlan was in the studio and Scott Quinnell. We were getting into the intracies of the game and who were hoped would play well.

We broke off half-sentence – the fireworks were going off, the Munster Rugby Supporters Club choir was singing and it just felt like it was ’08, like it was ’06, those years when they were dominant and they won.

The magic felt as though it had returned. The belief in the stands, the belief in the field seems to be back.

It was a wonderful to be there on the mid-tier levels surrounded by Munster supporters.

Sky have often been accused of Munster bias in the past, but Greenwood challenged anyone to go to the famous ground and not fall in love with what has been done there.

People have often said, ‘Why Munster? Why always never back against the Men in Red?’ Sport is about having experiences, wonderful experiences. If you ever think that there’s a bias towards them, go to Thomond Park – just once.

Go to Thomond Park just once and then tell me you don’t have admiration for Munster and what they’ve done and what they’ve achieved off the field to bring the whole community in and for the rugby team to be their talisman.

He’s right. If you’ve never experienced the magic of Thomond Park, put it on your bucket list. It truly is something special.
