Ouch.
Johnny Sexton is some man to take a battering. The Ireland and Leinster playmaker has always been targeted by the opposition over the years, but somehow usually battles on.
At the end of the day, he can take it as a huge compliment, as the best players in the world are the ones usually targeted. But that doesn’t mean it hurts any less. Especially when it’s a 6ft 7 in, 130kg lock giving you a battering.
Just five minutes in Ireland’s win over Argentina on Saturday evening at the Aviva, Sexton was on the wrong end of a brutal shoulder into the face from Pumas second-row Tomas Lavanini. The whiplash looks sickening, as his head nearly comes off his shoulders.
The Ref Cam footage below captures it in all it’s glory, and Sexton deserves some serious credit for taking this on the chin, quite literally. And people say he’s soft. Gimme a break.
