Ouch.
Leader, warrior, hero, inspiration – there aren’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe the man that is Ireland’s Peter O’Mahony.
The flanker put in one of the all-time great Irish performances last night as the men in green took down the mighty All Blacks in Dublin for the first time with a 16-9 win at the Aviva.
What makes his performance even more remarkable is the fact that he was carrying a hip injury for a large chunk of the game. He should have went off much sooner, but thankfully he stayed beyond the 60 minute mark, making an incredible interception, and turning over the ball in his final few minutes.
And after the game, O’Mahony got so caught up in the celebrations he forgot he was injured – momentarily. The wince on his face shows just how much pain he was in. What an an absolute warrior.
