Lions tour veteran Alun Wyn Jones turned 31 yesterday.
The Ospreys and Wales lock stepped in for the injured Sam Warburton as captain in the third and final test against Australia in 2013 and was left with the daunting task of leading a team to their first series since 1997. The tour veteran gave a thrilling speech to his teammates that clearly worked as the Lions went on to trounce the Wallabies 41-16 and take the series.
To mark the occasion of his birthday, the official Lions account has released footage of his speech and it’s a joy to watch. Jones will face some stiff competition in the second-row department next summer, but with leadership skills like this- he has to be one of the leading contenders for a spot on the plane.
