The anticipation is real.
One of the truly amazing things about the British & Irish Lions selection process, is that the players find out if they’ve been picked or not, the exact same way we do.
As you might have seen in some videos yesterday, usually the players come in for a lunch break during training and gather round to see who’s managed to make the cut.
For Leigh Halfpenny he was at home with his family while watching the announcement, and the look of fear on his face shows you how nervous he was.
Despite being named player of the tournament in 2013, Halfpenny’s spot was far from assured this time round, with several players fighting for a spot in the back three. To hear his name being called out must have been some sense of relief. The joy that followed is what makes the Lions so special.
