2016 will forever be remembered as one of the most devastating years in history.
For us in the rugby world it will forever be associated with the death of the late great Anthony Foley. The former Munster head coach and captain was tragically found dead in his hotel room on the eve of his side’s Champions Cup clash with Racing 92.
In the many weeks that have followed we have all been touched by the heartbreaking and emotional tributes that have followed. From Munster’s heroics in Thomond Park against Glasgow and Ireland’s wonderful figure of eight before the biggest game of their lives to the New Zealand Maori presenting his former side with a wonderful jersey.
Anthony Foley was a hero to many and unfortunately, along with many of our sporting heroes, was taken away from us all too soon in 2016.
BBC honoured these fallen men and women at SPOTY tonight with a stunning performance of Heroes by David Bowie. Check it out below.
Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.
