Warren Gatland Has Brilliant Response When Asked If He’ll Set Up A Twitter Account

Brilliant.

Springboks director of rugby Rassie Erasmus has made headlines over the last couple of years after becoming one of the first rugby bosses to have his very own social media account on Twitter.

Could you imagine Joe Schmidt, Leo Cullen, or even Eddie Jones on Twitter? It would be so interesting. So when Erasmus did it, we were all very surprised – and he’s not shy to voice his opinion.

Erasmus was especially active over the last fortnight, Tweeting clips following the Lions vs South Africa ‘A’ game and retweeting some very familiar-looking video analysis from ‘Jaco Johan’ his illusive alter ego.

His response to being called out on that was absolutely fantastic in one of the all-time great press conferences but Warren Gatland had a bit of fun himself today too.

“That’s a bit of a separate side-show… we’ve read the stories but I’ve not taken too much out of it,” Gatland said when asked about Erasmus’ activity online.

But what about setting up his own account? Sounds like it won’t happen for two reasons – he doesn’t know how to, and he’d get way too much abuse!

“No, I don’t even know how to get onto it and set up a Twitter account,” Gatland said.

“I’d probably get too much abuse, so no point in that!”

Great stuff. Rugby needs more characters like Gatland and Erasmus. A brilliant side-story heading into the second Test to make the series even more interesting.
