James O’Connor looks set to make his long awaited Wallabies return ahead of the Rugby World Cup in Japan, with the 28-year-old set to return to Australia with the Queensland Reds.
According to foxsports.com.au, O’Connor has signed a long-term deal with the Super Rugby outfit that will see him return to the southern hemisphere’s premier rugby competition from 2020.
The deal will see him become instantly eligible for the Wallabies, with Michael Cheika set to name him in his squad ahead of their Rugby Championship opener with South Africa on July 21.
Should he miss out on Rugby World Cup selection however, O’Connor is expected to be brought into the Australian Sevens team in a bid to represent his country at the Olympics next year.
