Huge blow for Rob Howley.
Wales stars Taulupe Faletau and Luke Charteris will both miss the Six Nations opener against Italy in Rome on Sunday.
Faletau has been deemed not ready to return having been out since Christmas Eve with knee ligament damage, while his Bath team mate Charteris has a fracture to his hand.
They will however be in contention to face England the following weekend in round two of the tournament.
Justin Tipuric, Sam Warburton and Ross Moriarty are now likely to make up the back row.
