After months of speculation Warren Gatland names his British & Irish Lions squad at noon tomorrow afternoon.
Sam Warburton is set to be named as captain for the second successive tour, having led them to a series victory over Australia in 2013.
A lot of big names are set to miss out, such is the incredible talent pool available to Gatland this time round, with reports coming in last night that there could be a few shocks in the form of the likes of Joe Launchbury and Jonathan Joseph being left out.
Before things get all serious tomorrow, we’ve decided to have a bit of fun with a nice light-hearted poem. It’s an updated take on the 2013 one send to us by an anonymous fan.
‘Twas the night before Lions selection…
‘Twas the night before Lions selection, when all through the eve,
Only Gatland was sleeping with some tricks up his sleeve,
Farrell, Jones and Warburton all sat in their chair,
With dreams of captaincy flowing through their hair,
Joseph weeped and cried in his kitchen,
Hoping Ben Te’o hasn’t taken his position.
Beside his name, Launchbury hopes there’s a tick,
Along with Lawes, Kruis and Tipuric.
Zebo could run faster than the plane,
Causing Gatty more of a selection pain,
And then there’s Heaslip, consistency’s the word,
Folk say he’s not going, either is Ford.
Last time round Halfpenny kicked himself there,
While Ben Youngs has proven he’s better than Danny Care,
Vunipola could bosh a rhino out of his way,
The same could be said for Sean O’Brien on any given day…
McGrath and Best will be partners in crime,
Will Dylan Hartley make it this time?
Furlong and Cole will battle for three,
And once again Neil Jenkins will marshal the tee.
Ryan and O’Mahony are in with a shout,
Two men that will give you their all no doubt,
Despite all the drama, the choices and speculation,
At the end of the day, it’s about silencing the All Black nation.
