Springback.
England international Chris Ashton has had an incredible first season with Toulon, breaking the Top 14 try-scoring record in some fashion.
But what makes his season all the more impressive is the fact that he has been playing out of position for most of the campaign. Ashton is a winger – and a damn good one at that, but Toulon have been forced to slot him in at fullback having failed to replace Leigh Halfpenny.
That however, looks like it will soon change, with the French giants set to sign Springboks star Andries Coetzee. Reports in France from Midi Olympique suggest the Lions star is set to sign a three-year deal, and will likely operate as Toulon’s specialist fullback next season.
That will allow Ashton to revert back to the wing – and probably result in in break even more records next season, including his own. Just imagine a Toulon back-three of Tuisova, Coetzee and Ashton. It’s the stuff of nightmares for any opposition.
