Tom Curry On The Fitting Nickname The Lions Squad Have Given Josh Navidi

Fitting.

England flanker Tom Curry is set to make his first start for the British and Irish Lions this weekend in an exciting back-row combination.

Curry will finally be lining up alongside Sam Simmonds, something England fans have be waiting to see for a very long time, as well as Welsh workhorse Josh Navidi, who was a late call-up following Justin Tipuric’s injury.

Warren Gatland revealed yesterday that he has given all three a “licence” to get stuck into the game, get their hands on the ball and express themselves, and this is something that very much excites Curry.

He just can’t wait to get out on the pitch tomorrow and finally make his Lions debut.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to playing alongside Sam [Simmonds] and [Josh] Navidi – or Navicii as he’s now being called,” Curry told us.

“Playing with those two is going to be exciting. Sam especially in attack and then having Navidi around the breakdown defensively, I think it’s a really exciting combination.

“It’s one that I’ve been excited to learn off but also excited to throw ourselves off of everything.”

Navicii? What’s this you say? It’s Josh Navidi’s new nickname, a fitting one, as Curry explains.

“Because he’s a part-time DJ so it’s kind of Navidi/Avicii – Navicii!” Curry laughed when asked about Navidi’s new nickname.

And it turns out Navicii has taken Curry and his new best pal Tadhg Furlong under his wing.

“Tadhg [Furlong] and I are coming along nicely, Navicii is our mentor. We’re trying to learn as much as possible from him!”
