Three England Regulars Left Out Of World Cup Training Squad By Eddie Jones

Left out.

England boss Eddie Jones today named a 29-man training squad to attend a training camp at Pennyhill Park next week. The week is the first of two training camps, held at Pennyhill Park and the Lensbury (30 June-4 July), before the first official Rugby World Cup training camp begins on 7 July at the Lensbury.

There’s no place for big names such as Owen Farrell, Courtney Lawes, Billy Vunipola and Maro Itoje as players attending the camp at Pennyhill Park will not have featured in the Gallagher Premiership semi-finals or final.

And while that means there’s still hope for guys like Gloucester’s Danny Cipriani – things look a lot more ominous for three big names in Dylan Hartley, Chris Robshaw and Danny Care.

All three did not feature in the semi-final or finals of the Premiership this season, but have been overlooked regardless. Hartley hasn’t played since December as he continues to recover from a knee problem, with a spot in the final squad looking very doubtful for the co-captain.

As for the Harlequins pair of Robshaw, who captained England at the last World Cup, and scrumhalf Care – their chances of going to Japan now appear to be pretty slim. Jones will name his official training squad on July 4. Expect plenty of big names to miss out.
