Staying at home.
Some of the best talent in the world will be on show at the Rugby World Cup in Japan later this year – but at the same time some super talented players won’t be making the trip either.
Unlike other sports, rugby can be a bit fickle in terms of national selection. Most of the tier one nations will not select talent unless they ply their trade at home, or have reached a certain threshold in terms of caps.
As a result some top names are overlooked as coaches look to only pick the best home-based players. There’s also cases where guys aren’t picked because the head coach just doesn’t fancy them, simple as. Others choose to make themselves unavailable for various reasons.
And the list of players who look very unlikely to travel to Japan this year is quite something. The lads over at RugbyPass have decided to put an XV together based on those players and it’s pretty safe to say – this team would give almost anyone a run for their money.
