Joe Marler was handed a two game ban from World Rugby and a £20,000 fine following his ‘gypsy boy’ comment this week.
The England prop initially escaped punishment from an RBS 6 Nations committee, but World Rugby were not happy and decided to step in a take matter’s in their own hands, banning the Harlequins man for two games and giving him a tidy fine.
The decision has been backed by most, even former England international Will Greenwood came out and applauded the decision, citing that an example needed to be made out of Marler for the sake of the game’s reputation as his reason for backing the decision.
One England fan however has set-up a JustGiving page in an attempt to raise funds to pay the England international’s fine. The page claims Marler has been “hung out to dry” and has already attracted hundreds of pounds of donations from people in support of the England prop. Absolute madness.
