The Ireland Player Ratings After A Mammoth Performance In Dublin

Party spoiled.

Ireland have spoiled the English party at the Aviva thanks to a 13-9 win in difficult conditions.

Iain Henderson grabbed the only try, with Peter O’Mahony leading the line in a man of the match performance.

Here are our player ratings after an epic night in Dublin.

Jared Payne – 7.5

You could see straight away he’s still a few weeks off from being back to his best, but recovered brilliantly from a couple of early knock-ons under the high ball. Made some excellent breaks, you can see he offers so much more than Kearney

Keith Earls – 7

Only lasted forty minutes before making way for Conway at half-time, but put in a solid shift. Excellent tournament overall for Earls, one of Ireland’s finest backs.

Garry Ringrose – 8

The young centre has gotten better every week. Beautiful footwork, always looks like a threat. His defence is also greatly improved. A real talent.

Robbie Henshaw – 8

Eats yards for breakfast. Another solid shift from Henshaw

Simon Zebo – 7

Didn’t see a lot of ball but had some threatening moments. Another solid shift for the Munster winger.

Johnny Sexton – 8.5

The Leinster playmaker was targeted from the off but reacted well. Controlled the game, kicked well and always looked like he had a game plan.

Kieran Marmion – 8

Some excellent cover tackles and some really quick ball. Brilliant to see Ireland can rely on him in Murray’s absence.

Jack McGrath – 7

Solid shift, scrummed well and some good work at the breakdown.

Rory Best – 7.5

Looked like his game was over early after a HIA, but recovered well and threw brilliantly in the line-out. Led from the front.

Tadhg Furlong – 8

Standing ovation for the Leinster prop after he left everything on the pitch. What a tournament he’s had. Definitely on the plane to New Zealand.

Donnacha Ryan – 9

Another monstrous performance from the Munster lock, but we knew it was coming with England coming to town. Brilliant in the line-out and at the breakdown. A true warrior.

Iain Henderson 8.5

Grabbed the winning try and offered Ireland that extra ball carrier when needed. Outshone his counterparts and proved he’s a better option than Toner.

Peter O’Mahony – 10

Words can’t describe just how immense this man was. Brilliant in the line-out, man of the match, manic aggression, an absolute beast.

Sean O’Brien – 7.5

Made a nuisance of himself and carried for some hard yards. Looked exhausted coming off, but played well throughout.

CJ Stander – 7.5

So much more threatening than Heaslip from eight. Almost always gets over the gain line and marshall the scrum. This has to be Ireland’s future back-row.

Replacements

Niall Scannell 7

Played well in both cameos. A solid Six Nations for the debutant.

Cian Healy 7.5

Huge break when he came on, and picked up his teammate Sexton when he needed it. A solid shift.

Devin Toner – 6.5

Played well when he came on, kept the aggression up.

Dan Leavy –  6.5

John Ryan – 6.5

Andrew Conway 7

Started a bit shaky with a silly challenge on Te’o. Came into the game though and an excellent debut overall.

Luke McGrath 7.5

Put in the kick of the match with less than three minutes on the clock.
