Ireland’s clash with England this past weekend was one of the most highly anticipated Six Nations games in recent history – and the post-match television viewing figures prove that.
In the UK, 8.2 million people tuned into ITV’s coverage to watch Eddie Jones’ men pull off a famous scalp. That’s around 12% of the entire population of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Truly astonishing figures.

Meanwhile in Ireland, 1.45 million people tuned in to watch Ireland fall to a disappointing defeat on Virgin Media One. To put that into comparison – on average, 979,400 viewers watched the game, beating last year’s Grand Slam figure of 951,000 on St Patrick’s Day.
