Close, but we’re not fully convinced.
Sky Sports pundits Sir Ian McGeechan and Luke Fitzgerald have had a go at picking their Lions XV after today’s win. Unsurprisingly they’ve selected a number of players that starred in the win over the Crusaders, but we’d be inclined to make a few changes.
At fullback they’ve gone for Anthony Watson and while he looked menacing going forward today, you have to think Gatland will go with someone who has more Test experience at fullback, such as Stuart Hogg or Leigh Halfpenny.
They’ve also gone for Liam Williams, who to be quite honest, hasn’t done enough to warrant a Test jersey. In the centres, Farrell at 12 can definitely work as we saw today, but perhaps Te’o would be a better option off the bench, with Davies or Henshaw slotting in at 13.
The pack looks really good, but there will no doubt be fierce competition in the back-row with Stander and captain Sam Warburton also in the frame. As for the second-row, it’s Itoje over Jones for us all day long.
