New sponsor.
The Six Nations is set to announce HSBC as their new title sponsor according to a report in the Guardian, ending their long association with RBS/NatWest.
The title sponsor situation was a huge talking point ahead of this year’s tournament, with officials hoping to secure a lucrative £100m deal over six years, before almost being left without a sponsor.
They were forced to backtrack and take a deal worth £11m for one season with RBS/NatWest, but that deal it seems will not be renewed. HSBC currently sponsor the World Sevens series and have also sponsored the British and Irish Lions on two occasions (2009, 2013).
The new deal could also see HSBC return to sponsor the Lions in 2021. How much any deal is worth remains to be seen.
