All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick has confirmed what he said to Ireland’s Peter O’Mahony following New Zealand’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final win over the men in green last year.
Much was said about Retallick’s comments to O’Mahony after fellow second-rower Sam Whitelock won a penalty in the closing stages of the game to prevent Ireland from staging a late comeback.
Retallick reportedly told O’Mahony:
“Oi Peter, four more years you fuckwit.”
And now the 32-year-old has confirmed that is exactly what he told the new Irish captain.
“I said what was reported,” Retallick told the What a Lad podcast when asked what was it he said to Peter O’Mahony.
“When they beat us in Wellington in that series [in 2022], he was just into us on the field, spraying us left, right, and centre.
“I enjoy it. When you’re having your day, you let them know it, but I’m definitely going to give it back when we’re having our day, and what better moment than that one right there after the penalty, that’s for sure.”
