Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Leinster are without doubt one of the best club teams in the world right now. But the Irish province showed over the weekend they are far from invincible as they fell to defeat at the hands of Toulouse.
Before that game a lot of pundits got way ahead of themselves following Leinster’s absolute demolition of Wasps, with former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio going as far as comparing their strength in depth to world champions the All Blacks.
But Leinster back-row Sean O’Brien is having absolutely none of it, branding his comments as ‘pure shite’ when asked about them during a Leinster press conference.
“Pure shite!,” he said.
“It’s not realistic. How can you compare an All Black international team to a provincial team?”
“He should know better, shouldn’t he? That’s an outside perception. I can honestly say that is not our perception.”
“We’re trying to create an environment and a set-up that is ours. We would never compare ourselves to the All Blacks now or in the future in any respect.”
“I wouldn’t analyse it at all as a compliment. That’s someone else’s thing. It’s not coming from us. I wouldn’t be losing any sleep over it.”
