Sam Warburton has long been the favourite to captain the Lions.
The Cardiff Blues back-row however, suffered a medial ligament strain during Cardiff’s 24-24 draw against Ulster in their Guinness PRO12 clash in Belfast, ruling him out for at least six weeks.
Gatland will name his squad tomorrow at 12pm, before bringing out his tour captain, but it now appears that Alun Wyn Jones has remerged as favourite for the prestigious role. The lock is now 1/100 with the Betfair exchange, while Warburton is 1/16.
Jones took over from Warburton as Wales captain this year, and filled in as Lions captain for the 3rd Test against Australia in Warburton’s absence. The experience lock is currently injured himself with shoulder injury, but is expected back any day now.
The second-row department is just as competitive as the back-row however, so we could still be left in a situation where the captain does not start agains the All Blacks. Would you prefer to see Jones as captain over Warburton?
