Sale Punish Player Who Leaked Team Information To Bristol In The Harshest Way Possible

Sale Sharks have terminated the contract of Tom Arscott with immediate effect following a disciplinary investigation and hearing.

It emerged on Monday the RFU was investigating a complaint made by Sale regarding the “passing of information to the opposition team” ahead of their Aviva Premiership match against Bristol at the AJ Bell Stadium on New Year’s Day, which the hosts lost 24-23.

Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond on Tuesday revealed Arscott,  a former Bristol player, whose brother Luke is currently part of the Bristol squad, was suspended over the matter while they await further information about the incident.

They have now moved quickly to sack Arscott, with no further comment to be made in accordance with the club’s disciplinary procedure.

Sale boss Steve Diamond said at the time the news broke to Sky Sports News:

“Senior players came to me and said they’d heard that information had been passed from one group to another. We set a disciplinary up and, in order to do that, we informed the RFU.”

“I don’t really know the full details of it. That information has been passed onto the RFU.

“Effectively a player has met with the opposition and given them some information – that is all I am allowed to say.

“All we have done is asked him why he has done it. He has replied and we now have to go through a formal disciplinary process.”

The right decision by Sale?
