Rugby Chief Recovering After Vicious Town Centre Assault

Castleford Tigers CEO Steve Gill is recovering at home after he was the victim of an alleged assault in the Yorkshire town on Friday.

The Super League leaders say the emergency services were called to the scene following the attack in Bridge Street, Castleford, early on Friday.

The Tigers have released a statement which read:

“Castleford Tigers can confirm that CEO Steve Gill was the victim of alleged in Castleford on Friday.

“On behalf of everyone here at the club we wish Steve a quick recovery.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the emergency services for their quick and professional response.

“Castleford Tigers now ask all fans and the media to respect Steve’s privacy while he recovers at home with his family.”

West Yorkshire police issued a statement which read:

“Police were called to Bridge Street in Castleford at 11.56am today following a report of an assault.
“A 58-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody at this time.
“The victim, a 57-year-old man, suffered an injury to his back which is not believed to be serious.”
