Ronan O’Gara has been punished as a result of some comments made in Racing 92’s loss to La Rochelle a couple of weeks back.
O’Gara outhalf was outraged after Teddy Thomas was penalised for a no-arms tackle, that upon video review, showed he did indeed wrap. The decision to award a penalty however, remained and the Corkman let loose on the officials.
The former Munster playmaker was summoned to appear in front of LNR [league] officials for disciplinary action, stemming from how he addressed a match official in those closing minutes and has now been banned for 10 weeks from the touchline, dug-out and anywhere near the referee’s dressing room.
Racing also received a €15,000 fine, €10,000 for his offence and a further €5,000 for having ‘an unauthorised person’ approach the touchline official. The ban will not affect this weekend’s Champions Cup clash with Munster, just Top 14 matches.
