Scare.
Ireland’s defeat to England on Saturday has resulted in their opponents rising to third in the world in the official World Rugby Rankings – and things could have been a lot worse.
The loss at home to their bitter rivals sees Ireland lose 1.80 points, with England gaining the same amount for their 32-20 win. That sees Eddie Jones’ men overtake Wales in the rankings despite their win over France. They gain .31 points for the win in Paris.
Had Ireland not scored in the final moments through John Cooney, England would have gained maximum points (win by over 15 points) and overtaken them to rise to second in the World Rugby Rankings.
A reality check indeed. A win against Scotland this weekend is a must for Joe Schmidt’s men.
