The Six Nations kicked off with a bang the weekend with some outstanding individual performances.
Here’s our round one team of the weekend.
15. Mike Brown (England)
The Harlequins full-back is rediscovering his best form.
14. Jack Nowell (England)
Illustrated his blistering pace to go over in the corner for England’s second try. Should only get better.
13. Michele Campagnaro (Italy)
Incredibly unlucky not to score in the first-half and showed enough flashes of inspiration to suggest he will be even more of a threat as the tournament continues.
12. Jamie Roberts (Wales)
Weighed in with 21 tackles, including two bone-crunching hits on his opposite number Robbie Henshaw. Unlucky to miss out on man-of-the-match award but Stander just pipped him.
11. Virimi Vakatawa (France)
Had not played the 15-man game in two years, so one can only shudder at the thought of how good he might be with some practice. A wonderful step for his try and has a serious turn of pace, too.
10. Jonathan Sexton (Ireland)
Terrific set-piece display and a standout performance. Keeping Sexton in-form and healthy will be Ireland’s key to success.
9. Conor Murray (Ireland)
Scored Ireland’s only try and supplied his team with ball in hand with seamless speed at the breakdown.
8. Sergio Parisse (Italy)
Led from the front as per usual and bagged himself a try. We’ll forget about that dropgoal.
7. Tommy O’ Donnell (Ireland)
Towering performance from the Munster man. Beginning to show the form he was hitting before his horror injury against Wales.
6. CJ Stander (Ireland)
23 tackles and 11 carries in a man of the match performance, the Munster man was unstoppable.
5. George Kruis (England)
The form player in the Premiership took his good run onto the international stage, scoring England’s opening try and looking dominant at set-piece and in the loose.
4. Devin Toner (Ireland)
It is asking a lot for Toner to step into Paul O’Connell’s shoes, but he is looking the part at international level, and it was his charge-down that led to Conor Murray’s try
3. Samson Lee (Wales)
2. Dylan Hartley (England)
Just the performance the new England captain needed.
1. Rob Evans (Wales)
Rob Evans performed brilliantly and had Nathan White under pressure from the word go.
