The greatest.
Coaching duo Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber have certainly left their mark on South African Rugby following back-to-back World Cup wins following their appointments back in 2018.
The pair coached together at Munster Rugby, transforming the Irish province before an infamous South African defeat made them realise they must return home and restore pride to the Springboks jersey – and they certainly did.
Erasmus led the Springboks initially before the reigns were handed to Nienaber when he was named head coach back in 2020. The latter then left the Boks following their 2023 triumph to join Leinster.
Rassie is now expected to take over Nienaber’s role as he gets set to lead the Springboks to the next World Cup in 2027, and scrumhalf Cobus Reinach reckons the pair are the greatest coaching duo in South African rugby history.
“It’s awesome. With Jacques, Rassie probably formed the best coaching duo in the history of South African rugby. The way they prepared for matches was incredible,” he told Midi Olympique.
“I am very happy that Rassie remains in charge of the Springboks, it is the best thing that could have happened to South African rugby.
“He will continue to build on the two world titles, and keep South Africa on the top step of world rugby.”
What do you think? Would you go as far as calling them the greatest coaching duo the game has ever seen? They’re certainly up there.
