Munster this week were linked with an audacious swoop for All Blacks star Ben Smith.
The fullback’s contract is set to expire next year with a host of clubs said to be chasing his signature from the Top 14. Munster were interestingly named by New Zealand media this week as possible suitors as Erasmus looks to build on his revolution down south.
While it’s common knowledge that Munster are suffering with financial difficulties, rumours suggested they may follow the likes of Ulster and seek private investment in order to pay his reported demands of over €750,000 per year.
Unfortunately Erasmus has squashed these rumours today, noting Munster are not in the market for any more non-Irish players.
One of my briefs is to get Irish-qualified players well coached and available for Joe Schmidt.” Erasmus said.
All four provinces are the same and Ben Smith is obviously not Irish-qualified, so that’s not true.”
Oh well Munster fans.
