South African (SA) Rugby have confirmed that their director of rugby Rassie Erasmus has been hospitalised following a freak accident.
The 51-year-old coach, who has led the Springboks to back to back Rugby World Cup wins glory 2019 and 2023, sustained an injury that has been labelled by SA Rugby as a “freak accident.”
Erasmus suffered chemical burns as a result of coming into contact with a “powerful detergent product.”
“Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby’s director of rugby, is recovering in hospital following a medical procedure for chemical burns sustained in a freak accident using a powerful detergent product,” a statement from South Africa Rugby said.
“He is otherwise in good health and expects to return to full-time working within weeks.”
We wish Rassie all the best in his recovery.
