Ireland are currently one of the frontrunners to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup along with France and South Africa.

All three nations have had their applications formally approved with a decision expected over the next few weeks as to who will get to host the famous tournament. Ireland have never hosted a major tournament like this before, although they have hosted a handful of Rugby World Cup games in the past.

In order to be eligible to host the tournament, Ireland needs a dozen stadia up to scratch, with one of those stadiums needing a 60,000+ capacity to host the semi-finals and final of the illustrious tournament.

One key part to this plan coming together is the €78 million redevelopment of Cork GAA’s Pairc Ui Chaomh. The stadium is being converted into a modern 45,000-seater, and hopes to play a huge role in Ireland’s bid.

A few images of the redevelopment have been doing the rounds on social media and it looks like it’s really starting to come along nicely.

Some of the stadiums currently in the bids plans are Croke Park, Dublin (82,300) Aviva Stadium, Dublin (51,700) Thomond Park, Limerick (25,630) RDS Arena, Dublin (18,500) and Ravenhill, Belfast (18,196) with a host of other GAA grounds expected to be put forward.

Fingers crossed lads. It could finally be Ireland’s time.
