Pics: The Lions Try Their Hand At A Spot Of Hurling & Soccer

Who needs rugby?

The Lions began their week long training camp in Ireland yesterday at Carton House, their final gathering before they fly out to New Zealand next week with a spot of hurling and soccer.

Gatland was given a massive boost ahead of the camp after the weekend’s shock results. Both Saracens and Leinster were knocked out of their respective semi-finals, freeing up the likes of Johnny Sexton and Owen Farrell.

Sean O’Brien is another man who joined up with the squad yesterday, with his calf problem clearing up enough for a bit of a puck around with a hurley. Alun Wyn Jones made his return to action in Ospreys loss to Munster on Saturday and was spotted having a kick around in a game of soccer with his fellow Lions.

They did however manage to squeeze in some rugby drills. The rest of the squad will link up with Gatland and his team following the Aviva Premiership and Guinness PRO12 finals, with the Lions set to take on a Provincial Union XV just a few days later in Whangarei on June 3rd.
