Peter O’Mahony Reserves Special Praise For In-Form Munster Star

Impressive.

Munster captain Peter O’Mahony has hailed the impact of summer signing Tadhg Beirne, who has been a standout performer for the southern province since arriving from the Scarlets.

The former Leinster recruit has been devastating at the breakdown in particular, keeping up his incredible turnover stats from last season that saw him top the PRO14 and Champions Cup charts by some distance.

O’Mahony reckons Beirne could slot into almost any team because he’s such an “able footballer” who has a “great rugby brain”.

“It wouldn’t be difficult for someone like him [Beirne] to fit in anywhere,” O’Mahony said

“He’s a very able footballer, he has some great rugby in him, a great rugby brain and is a very hard worker.

“He obviously has an incredible body because the positions he gets himself into look incredibly awkward and I don’t know how he stays in there at times, but he’s very impressive, the manner in which he goes around here and gets his work done, even his gym stuff, very impressive. He keeps his head down.”

Beirne has also recently stepped up his game with Munster by starting to call some of their lineouts. And O’Mahony has been impressed.

“He is new to the calling side of things as well, I thought he has been very impressive in that area as well.” O’Mahony added

“He hadn’t done a huge amount of it until he came here and he has put his head down. Himself and Holl [Billy Holland], they get an incredible amount of work done in our attack lineout and our defensive lineout as well and he has been very impressive since he has arrived.”
