Further proof that Nigel Owens is an absolute legend.
Nigel Owens was the man in the middle this past weekend as two European heavyweights clashed in the Champions Cup. The Welshman took charge as Saracens and Toulon battled in a fiery affair at Allianz Park.
After the game, Owens revealed that the match was played at Test intensity and was ‘one of the toughest matches’ he’d ever refereed.
Despite this, it seems Owens still managed to make room for some of his classic banter, judging by a brilliant moment shared by the ref, Matt Giteau and Bryan Habana on Twitter. It seems during the game Toulon were awarded a scrum, with Giteau kicking it away, only for Owens to say advantage was over.
Owens response to Giteau when he complained was brilliant!
Owens was quick witted once again, suggesting perhaps Giteau should blame his chasers. Bryan Habana being one of those chasers.
Absolutely brilliant from three legends of the game.
