Now this is certainly a first.
New Zealand had everyone in Las Vegas scratching their heads over the weekend, after they bagged a try as a result of a tactic normally only seen in the fifteen-a-side version of the game.
Sevens rugby is usually reserved for fast feet, quick ball and stunning offloads. But New Zealand decided to revert back to the basics of union, with a catch and drive maul, that worked a treat against Fiji.
Unfortunately the brilliant effort was enough for the Kiwis though, as Fiji bagged a last minute winner to progress to the semi-finals. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as New Zealand defeated rivals Australia in their play-off for fifth place.
