When will we next see a much anticipated All Blacks Vs England fixture?
England’s 37-21 win over Australia this past weekend saw them go unbeaten in 2016 and cement their place as the number two side in the world behind back to back world champions, New Zealand.
The All Blacks were unbeaten themselves until Ireland triumphed over them in Chicago last month, their only loss in 2016 having won 13 from 14 games. With both sides goinf 13 from 13 in 2016, the prospect of them taking each other on in 2017 is mouth watering.
It looks likes that wont happen however, at least according to New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew. He believes 2018 is the earliest such a fixture can be expected.
“We’ve got a huge year for our team next year with three games in Europe already locked and loaded” Tew said
“We’ll take that all into account early in the new year and finalise a fourth game but it won’t be England, no.”
The three matches in question already planned are set to be against Wales, Scotland and France. The good news however is a good portion of the England players in the current set-up are in line for a crack at the All Blacks as part of the Lions set-up in 2017.
We’ll just have to make do with a battle for the second best team in the world at the Six Nations next year as Ireland and England lock horns. Who will be New Zealand’s closest challengers in 2018? Only time will tell.
