Madness.
Thomond Park was left shocked this evening in the final moments of Munster’s 10-3 win over Saracens when back-row Arno Both was shown a red card for a fend on Nick Tompkins.
The South African picked off the base of the scrum and found himself in space as the home side looked to get themselves one more score to take the losing bonus-point away from Saracens.
Tompkins looked to bring him down but came in high and Botha fended in an attempt to break through the challenge. Similar to Samuel Kerevi on Rhys Patchell at the World Cup, the fend landed across the throat and rightly he was penalised.
But there was complete and utter shock in the stadium when referee Roman Poite pulled out a red card. Absolute madness. And that’s before you mention the fact that it was pulled back after the ball was kicked out!
