Munster Suffer Double Injury Blow

Munster are going to be down to their bare bones for the next few weeks.

The southern province have been in tremendous form this season, with the players’ performances not going unnoticed by Ireland boss Joe Schmidt. No fewer than 13 Munster players have been selected in the Irish squad, the highest representation for the province since 2010.

Given the size of the Six Nations squad Schmidt has picked (the largest of any of the nations) a few of these players will probably be released in time for PRO12 games, but there’s no real guarantee, depending on the team Schmidt wants to select and injuries etc.

To make matters worse, Munster’s latest injury update is not good. op James Cronin underwent surgery yesterday and has been ruled out for approximately 6 to 8 weeks with a finger injury. The Munster A game in Allianz Park on Friday night has also taken its toll with Dave Foley sustaining a wrist injury and the Tipperary lock will now seek specialist opinion.

Add these guys to the current list of unavailable players- Darren Sweetnam (knee), Robin Copeland (thumb), Sam Arnold (knee), Alex Wootton (shoulder), Sean McCarthy (knee), Mark Chisholm (concussion), Duncan Casey (knee), Mike Sherry (back), Cathal Sheridan (ankle), and you’re down to your bare bones.

Success has surely taken its toll on Munster this season. Maybe Rassie Erasmus can get on the phone and bring over a few more South Africans?
