This would be huge.
Munster are reportedly in the mix to sign All Blacks superstar Ben Smith. The New Zealand fullback’s contract is set to expire next year, with a number of clubs set to be chasing his coveted signature.
Stuff.co.nz suggests Smith is inclined to follow old All Black teammate Dan Carter to Europe, and says Munster, who have signed the likes of Doug Howlett and Christian Cullen over the years, are ‘courting’ the 30-year-old, as are a number of French clubs.
French rugby journalist Gavin Mortimer also tweeted this morning that Midi Olympique are aware of Munster’s pursuit of Smith, who has scored 44 tries for the All Blacks.
Midi says that Ben Smith could earn €1.6m a season in Europe, should he move. Paper says Munster “and several French clubs” are on his tail.
Staying on the topic of Munster, Mortimer is also reporting that Ian Keatley is closing in on a move to Bayonne, as he seeks more game time.
