England back Anthony Watson has been ruled out for three to four weeks and will miss the Six Nations matches against France and Wales at the very least.
The Bath winger has only just recovered from a three-month layoff with a broken jaw, but his England return is now set to be put on hold.
The devastating finisher is widely renowned as England’s best winger and has been hotly tipped for Lions Test selection.
A statement released by England today revealed that the Bath star will miss 3-4 weeks, but will remain with the England camp.
“Further medical assessment confirmed that Anthony Watson has a slight muscular strain to his hamstring which will require a rehabilitation period of 3–4 weeks,” read a statement.
“Working in conjunction with medical staff at Bath, Watson will remain with England for his rehabilitation.”
England head coach Eddie Jones commented:
“It’s disappointing news for Anthony and for England, but we know he’ll rehab diligently to get himself right to go as soon as he can.
“We’re confident he’ll be mix later in the championship.”
Jones now looks set to start Jack Nowell on one wing, with Jonny May expected to take Watson’s spot on the other wing.
