Louis Picamoles looks set to return to France after just one season with Northampton.
The powerful back-row forward has been one of Northampton’s standout players this season but it now appears they will have to start preparing for life without him next season. Montpellier owner Mohen Altrad has revealed that Picamoles has already signed a pre-contract agreement with the French side.
Picamoles has already informed Northampton of his wish to leave and return home, so it’s now just a matter of the two clubs agreeing a fee for the last two years of his contract.
This however could get messy with Picamoles on £500,000 a season, meaning Northampton may look for a £1m transfer.
“Louis Picamoles should join us after the French team’s tour this summer.” Altrad said.
“It’s important for the national team to see the players on the France team play The Top 14 so that they have the same rhythm, the same vacation”
“That said, there are administrative aspects with his current club that is being settled.”
A blow for Northampton, but a huge boost and signal of intent from French rugby.
