Billions.
The takeover of French PRO D2 club AS Béziers Hérault by billionaire UAE investors is set to go ahead in the next few days and the list of players on their reported wishlist is insane.
Béziers have won eleven French championship titles since its establishment in 1911, but have fallen on hard times in recent years, dropping as low as Federale 1 at the end of the 2008-09 season.
Before the PRO D2 season was put on hold they sat 9th in the table but are now expected to become one of the biggest clubs in Europe over the next few years thanks to a huge cash injection,
Toulon were in a similar situation many years ago before Mourad Boudjellal came on board and turned them into three-time European champions, signing the likes of Carl Hayman, Bakkies Botha, Jonny Wilkinson, Tana Umaga, Bryan Habana, Sonny Bill Williams and Drew Mitchell during his tenure as owner.
And it appears Béziers are hoping to follow a similar path with the likes of Dan Biggar, Beauden Barrett, Ma’a Nonu, Courtney Lawes and Benjamin Fall.
Other names linked include Bath winger Semesa Rokodogun, Marika Korobeite, Jordan Taufua and Alex Tulou with a number of those potential deals said to be at an “advanced” stage of talks.
It’s going to be an interesting time for rugby, no doubt.
