Lions boss.
The British and Irish Lions are set to formally announce their head coach for 2025’s tour of Australia next Thursday, the 11th of January at 1pm.
Several names have been linked with the prestigious role following Warren Gatland’s decision to stay out of the running for 2025, having led the Lions on their last three consecutive tours.
According to the Daily Mail, however, the man who has won that race to lead the famous touring side is Ireland head coach Andy Farrell, who has long been the frontrunner.
The Englishman has worked as an assistant on two Lions tours (2013 and 2017) and will now take the top job as they get set to battle it out with the Wallabies.
IRFU performance coach David Nucifora backed Farrell for the role last month, with Ireland happy for him to take the job.
“We’d be ecstatic if Andy was named coach of the Lions so hopefully that accolade is the next one for him and we’d be more than comfortable with how [we] deal with it,” Nucifora said last month.
“As far as the period of time he might be away from us, that’s still something I think can be discussed if this happens.”
